Why we should be opposing Fluoride

YOU CAN REMOVE FLUORIDE FROM YOUR WATER USING A WATER DISTILLER

Did you know in Europe, only Ireland, Poland, Serbia, Spain and the UK fluoridate their water? The majority of developed countries, including Japan and around 97% of the European population does not consume fluoride through their drinking water. Some countries actually have very naturally occurring high levels of fluoride in their water.

These include places such as China, India and even parts of Africa. In these regions, steps are being taken to remove the fluoride due to the health problems that it can cause. Here in the UK however, we readily consume it simply because we’re told that it helps battle tooth decay. Here we look at just why we should finally be opposing fluoride and how we can avoid consuming it through our drinking water.

Stuff They Don't Want You To Know - Fluoridation

It’s the only chemical added for medical purposes

Despite there being thousands of chemicals and toxins within our tap water, fluoride is the only one that’s added for the purpose of medical treatment. Basic logic tells us that by adding fluoride to our water with the sole intention of preventing tooth decay, makes it a form of medication. This also makes it unethical as standard practice usually requires informed consent before a drug is administered.

The dose in uncontrollable

Once fluoride is pumped into our water supplies, it’s virtually impossible to control the dosage we receive as not only does the naturally occurring levels of fluoride differ from one place to another, but people drink different amounts of water too. Those who lead particularly active lifestyles or have physically demanding jobs and even those who suffer from conditions such as diabetes all consume substantially more water than others. This means they receive a much higher dose.

We already receive fluoride from multiple sources

Our fluoridated tap water isn’t the only way we receive fluoride. Other such sources include food and drink that have been processed with fluoridated water along with fluoridated dental products. We also receive it from mechanically deboned meat and even through pesticide residues on our food. It’s widely acknowledged that our exposure to non-water sources of fluoride have increased significantly.

Fluoride isn’t an essential nutrient

There is no disease on record, not even tooth decay that’s caused by any form of fluoride deficiency. There isn’t a single biological process that requires fluoride however there is evidence to show that fluoride can interfere with numerous important biological processes.

Breast milk contains extremely low levels

Considering again that fluoride isn’t actually an essential nutrient, it shouldn’t be surprising to hear that breast milk contains remarkably low levels of it. This means that a bottle-fed baby consuming fluoridated water can end up receiving around 300 times more fluoride than a breast fed baby. There are no benefits to a child this young receiving such high levels of fluoride, sadly however there are a lot of risks.

Fluoride gradually accumulates in the body

Healthy adult kidneys can excrete between 50-60% of the fluoride that gets ingested each day. The remainder then accumulates in the body, specifically around our bones and the pineal gland. Infants and children excrete even less, ingesting a whopping 80% in to their bones. The concentration of fluoride therefore steadily increases over our lifetime.

The benefit of fluoride is topical, not systemic

Recent studies have now concluded that the mechanism of fluoride’s benefits is mainly topical and systemic. There’s no need whatsoever to swallow fluoride in order to protect your teeth. With the benefit of fluoride being topical, it makes more sense to deliver it in the form of toothpaste. With swallowing being unnecessary and actually potentially dangerous, there’s simply no justification for forcing it on people via tap water.

Fluoride’s role in the prevention of tooth decay is in major doubt

The majority of western countries have rejected water fluoridation. Despite doing so, they have still experienced the same decline in childhood dental decay as the fluoridated countries. The largest survey ever conducted was in the US and encompassed 39,000 children from 84 different communities. The results showed very little difference in tooth decay between children in fluoridated and non-fluoridated communities.

A direct correlation between low-income communities with a high fluoridation level and high tooth decay is also testament to the fact that swallowing fluoride has no benefit whatsoever. In addition to this, studies have shown over and over again that fluoridation is hugely ineffective at preventing the most serious oral health problem facing poor children and that’s known as “baby bottle tooth decay”. Looking at communities where fluoridation has recently been stopped such as Canada, East Germany and Cuba you can also see there has been no rise in tooth decay, in fact it’s continued to decrease.

Fluoride may damage the brain

According to a number of studies, it’s now become apparent that fluoride has the ability to interfere with the functions of the brain. Animal experiments have shown that fluoride accumulates in the brain and alters mental behaviour in a manner that’s consistent with neurotoxic agents. It can also impact learning behaviour too.

Unfortunately with so many government officials and even dental leaders putting so much of their reputation and credibility on the line when it comes to defending fluoridation, it would be very difficult for them to speak truthfully about the links to hip fractures, brain problems and bone cancer. This means the likelihood of fluoride being removed from our water supply is highly unlikely however there is a way for you to avoid fluoride and that’s with the help of a water distiller.

Buying water distillers is the only water filtration system available that has the ability to remove fluoride along with virtually all chemicals, toxins and other such undesirables.
